{"id":4873,"date":"2026-10-06T11:23:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T09:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/galmallorca.org\/?p=4873"},"modified":"2026-10-06T11:23:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T09:23:47","slug":"the-2nd-palma-sustainable-fisheries-conference-concludes-with-strong-participation-and-shared-reflection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/galmallorca.org\/en\/the-2nd-palma-sustainable-fisheries-conference-concludes-with-strong-participation-and-shared-reflection\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2nd Palma Sustainable Fisheries Conference Concludes with Strong Participation and Shared Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">The new participatory format promoted the dialogue between the fisheries sector, the scientific community and the wider public.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><style>\r\na {\r\n    text-decoration: none;\r\n    color: #464feb;\r\n}\r\ntr th, tr td {\r\n    border: 1px solid #e6e6e6;\r\n}\r\ntr th {\r\n    background-color: #f5f5f5;\r\n}\r\n<\/style>&#13;\n<div>The <strong>2nd Palma Sustainable Fisheries Conference<\/strong>, held on <strong>1 and 2 October at the Port Center of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands<\/strong>, concluded with a highly positive outcome, both in terms of attendance and the quality of the discussions and reflections shared throughout the two-day event.<\/div><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organised by GALP Mallorca, the conference brought together fishers, researchers, public administrations, industry professionals and members of the public to address some of the main challenges and opportunities facing fisheries in Mallorca from a broad and multidisciplinary perspective.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike the previous edition, this year&#8217;s event placed a special focus on the social sustainability of fisheries, highlighting the people who make fishing possible and the day-to-day reality of the profession.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first day combined technical presentations with first-hand accounts from fishers, helping attendees gain a deeper understanding of the different fishing methods practised in Mallorca. Topics such as responsible seafood consumption and the role of science in building a more sustainable fisheries model were also addressed.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main innovations of this year&#8217;s conference was the format of the second day, which was structured around participatory workshops on generational renewal, the marketing of local fish, science and fisheries, and collaborative projects between territories. This new approach encouraged more direct dialogue between representatives from across the fisheries value chain and the attending public, generating exchanges and contributions of great interest. In fact, all sessions had to be brought to a close due to time constraints rather than a lack of discussion, highlighting both the interest these issues generate and the need to continue promoting spaces for dialogue, reflection and exchange such as this one.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GALP Mallorca highly values the response from attendees and the commitment shown by all speakers and participants, whose contributions helped consolidate the conference as a key forum for sharing knowledge, experiences and ideas for the future.
