{"id":3764,"date":"2025-11-06T11:56:18","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T10:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/galmallorca.org\/research-fishing-and-fish-markets-join-forces-in-palma-to-secure-the-future-of-the-sector\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T12:02:45","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T11:02:45","slug":"research-fishing-and-fish-markets-join-forces-in-palma-to-secure-the-future-of-the-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/galmallorca.org\/en\/research-fishing-and-fish-markets-join-forces-in-palma-to-secure-the-future-of-the-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Research, fishing and fish markets join forces in Palma to secure the future of the sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Novembre 3, 2025, the headquarters of the Balearic Port Authority hosted, in Palma, the first edition of <strong>the SABE Dialogues, a day of reflection and collaboration that brought together fishers, fish markets, scientists, public administrations and sustainability experts to address the challenges facing artisanal fishing in Mallorca and the Mediterranean.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Organised by the SABE Community with the support of GALP Mallorca, the event highlighted key issues such as the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems, the need to adapt European policies to the Balearic reality, and the urgency of strengthening local networks for fish marketing and consumption.<\/p>\n\n<p>Throughout the day, participants shared concrete proposals to improve coordination between fishers and fish markets, promote applied research, encourage the consumption of local fish and facilitate generational renewal in the sector. Discussions also focused on how to strengthen the link between science and territory, and how to ensure that political decisions take into account the voices of those who live from the sea.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Domingo Bonnin<\/strong>, president of GALP Mallorca, stated that \u201cBrussels is very far from Mallorca, but the decisions that affect fishing are made there. We need to adapt them to our reality.\u201d GALP Mallorca celebrates this space for dialogue and collaboration, which reinforces the sector\u2019s commitment to responsible fishing, rooted in the territory and with a long-term vision.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>SABE Dialogues<\/strong> are an initiative promoted by the <strong>Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation<\/strong>, aimed at connecting scientific research with everyday practice and civil society, as part of a transition towards more sustainable food systems.
