The event, organized by FAMENET (Fisheries and Aquaculture Monitoring, Evaluation and Local Support Network) in collaboration with the Dodecanese FLAG, brought together over 100 FLAGs from across the European Union, along with representatives from national Managing Authorities and the European Commission. Spain was represented by nine FLAGs, including FLAG Mallorca, as well as members of the Managing Authority and the National FLAG Network.<\/p>\n\n<p>This year\u2019s session focused on the urgent need to increase youth involvement in the development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Participants engaged in workshops and working groups aimed at making the sector more appealing to younger generations, encouraging the creation of new business ventures, and exploring innovative solutions through a hackathon to design an innovation lab.<\/p>\n\n<p>Key topics included the generational renewal gap, the need for targeted training for young people, and their active involvement in participatory processes such as the design of Community-Led Local Development Strategies. This participatory approach is essential to ensure a sustainable and resilient future for the sector.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/galmallorca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Famenet-Breakout-session-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2267\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p>Attendees also had the opportunity to visit several youth-led business initiatives funded by the local FLAG of Rhodes, showcasing the transformative potential of young people when provided with the right tools and support.<\/p>\n\n<p>The event highlighted the critical importance of strengthening cooperation among European FLAGs as a key tool to address shared challenges, exchange knowledge, and promote innovative policies.
