On May 12, 13, and 15, the Annual Plenary Session of the Spanish Network of Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) was held in Tenerife. The event was organized by the National FLAG Network and the Coastal Action Group of Tenerife. It brought together representatives from FLAGs across Spain, as well as intermediate management bodies and the National Managing Authority, with the aim of sharing the current situation of different coastal regions and promoting the exchange of experiences and strategies<\/p>\n\n
During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to learn firsthand about several local initiatives led by the Tenerife Coastal Action Group, funded through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). In addition, outstanding projects from other FLAGs were presented, highlighting the diversity of approaches and solutions being implemented across the country to revitalize coastal areas and promote the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.<\/p>\n\n
Collaboration among FLAGs is key to addressing common challenges such as environmental sustainability, economic diversification, and improving the quality of life in fishing communities. These gatherings foster synergies, help identify replicable best practices, and establish strategic alliances that enhance the impact of local actions at both regional and national levels.<\/p>\n\n
Moreover, the consolidation of an active and cohesive FLAG network improves dialogue with public administrations and facilitates access to resources and funding. In a context marked by the need to adapt to climate change and transform the production model, cooperation among groups is a fundamental tool to ensure a resilient and prosperous future for coastal areas.<\/p>\n\n
